The Whitehouse Retail Group was established in 1974. It began as a small petrol filling station and employed four staff. A convenience store was added in 1982 with a floor space of 1000 square feet. In 1986 the decision was made to join the symbol group Spar, widening the range of goods on offer. In 1992 the shop was re-imaged as a Costcutter store. It was expanded to 6500 square feet in 2000 and re-imaged as a Nisa Superstore and the petrol filling station was decommissioned. A new Bureau De Change business was launched in 2000 and moved to purpose built premises on site in 2003 to facilitate rapid growth. In 2003 Whitehouse Retail Park was developed comprising of 11000 square feet of retail space offered in 10 units. The Gleam Machine Carwash complex on site was redeveloped and upgraded together with the construction of a new Car showroom to accommodate the continuing growth of the used car business. In 2004 White Orchid Florists was opened offering a wide range of contemporary floral arrangements, bridal flowers and funeral flowers. The Florists also provides gifts and greeting cards for all occasions. The Whitehouse Retail Group and Whitehouse Retail Park directly employ 44 staff, with over 100 staff directly and indirectly employed on the four-acre site.
